SPACE NEEDLE CENTURY PROJECT

A historic renovation

In 2018 the Space Needle completed the Century Project, a historic renovation that opened up the Space Needle to 360-degree views of Seattle and the Puget Sound. The renovation included floor-to-ceiling glass on the inside, all-glass barriers outside, and the first-of-its-kind rotating glass floor.

The construction started in the fall of 2017, and during this time, the Space Needle remained open as much as possible. One of the first tasks was creating a massive 470’x40′ scrim that encapsulated the majority of the tophouse that protected workers and onlookers below. I assure you, we’re open! Please come up and see.

Signage

Following the completion of the Century Project, the Space Needle didn’t look that different from the ground, and tourists (80% of the business) may not know of the new and thrilling changes. What followed was the largest media buy I’ve been involved with at over a half million dollars. The buy included in-flight magazines, large banner displays at Seatac-International Airport, digital ads, and printed rack cards. I produced all these advertisements after working through a re-branding of the Space Needle’s voice and expression with Hornall Anderson.
