I’m more than just a Designer, I manage brands in 50 year scopes, create marketing initiatives, copywrite, and create in countless mediums. The world influences my creativity: nature, films, music, other designers, even that little POS sign for gum at the corner gas station. All of these things are inspirational, and motivational; to do better work, do it how only I can, and do it better each time. Never be satisfied.

I carry my Baron Fig Notebook anywhere away from my desk during my 9-5. It’s my lifeline to keeping my associative brain organized and prioritized. It’s my own mix of bulleted lists, long term project reminders, initiative tracking, note taking, and concepting. My Field Notes books go with me everywhere, and I’m particularly fond of the limited edition National Park books. I have a small personal goal to visit every National Park in the United States. My Field Notes books are for extensive concepting; a home to my incomplete ideas. Small pieces of the world to incorporate into my design language. These, and my Fisher Space Pen go with me everywhere. Fully understanding the positioning and purpose of anything comes before designing the visuals. It’s a way to get it into my head to understand it fully before putting it to pixels. The analog of pen and paper allows a distraction free flow of ideas that can’t be simply erased or ctrl+z’d. This process helps extensively in my Marketing and Copywriting side of design. If you find me in front of you with any of these tools, I’m bought in. I’ve been in this business too long to do things I’m not passionate about. I don’t like making phone calls, and I don’t like phoning it in.
